The Summer School and the embedded research workshop will take place at the University of British Columbia (UBC), in the beautiful and vibrant City of Vancouver, which is surrounded by mountains.

Most of the QI10 lectures will be held in the following buidlings:

  • The Hennings Building (Henn) - 6224 Agricultural Road
    Home of theUBC Department of Physics & Astronomy. Some of the QI10 sessions will be held in this building. On some days Summer School lectures will be held in room 200 or 201 of the building. The easiest way to find Henn 200 and 201 is to enter the building from the north side entrance.
  • The Ike Barber Learning Centre (IBLC) - 1961 East Mall.
    Opened in 2008, this renovated learning space contains a library, reading rooms, teaching and learning facilities, meetings rooms, cafe, and much more. On some days Summer School lectures will be held in room 182 (Victoria Learning Centre) of the Learning Centre.
  • Abdul Ladha Science Student Centre - 2055 East Mall
    The Abdul Ladha Centre is the Home of the Science Undergraduate Society. It is a social space to encourage both informal and organized academic, club, and social activities and interactions for those students enrolled in the Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia Vancouver. It is the venue for our Summer School reception.

UBC Vancouver is located at a penninsula surrounded by ocean.

All scientific activities will take place at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UBC, in the Hennings Building and the Ike Barber Learning Centre which are centrally located on the UBC Vancouver campus.

To UBC from Vancouver International Airport

Taxi
A taxi ride from the Vancouver International Airport to UBC usually takes approximately 30-45 minutes, and costs $30-40 one way.

Public Transit
From Vancouver International Airport, take the Canada Line Skytrain going to Waterfront.
Option 1: Get off at Oakridge-41st Station Northbound. Transfer to either the #43 UBC or #41 UBC buses.
Option 2: Get off at Cambie-Broadway Station Northbound. Transfer to #99 UBC.
It costs $8.75 to go from YVR to UBC ($3.75 + $5.00 Airport Add Fare), and $3.75 (regular fare) to go from UBC to YVR.

From UBC to downtown Vancouver and lower mainland
The UBC bus loop is located right next to the Student Recreation Centre (map). Diesel-powered buses (#25, 33, 41, 43, 44, 49, 84, 99, 258, 480) all depart from this bus loop. Other buses (trolly type busses, #4, 9, 17) depart from a smaller bus loop located right next to the War Memorial Gym (map) on the University Boulevard.

Accommodations

Various options for on campus accommodations are available. Please note that the rates are for per night and might not include applicable taxes and other expenses. Amounts are in Canadian dollars.

Carey Centre
Accommodations for the invited speakers are located at the Carey Centre.

UBC Conference & Accommodations
Conference & Accommodations offers a wide variety of accommodations, including dormitory style accommodation, budget one bedroom suites, and deluxe apartment suites (West Cost Suites). Prices range from $33 to $183 per night depending on room type. Some options might include free breakfasts.

Vancouver School of Theology
VST offers studios ($89), one bedroom suites ($102), and a two bedroom suite ($170). Suites feature double beds, ensuite bathrooms, mini-bar fridges, internet, TV, and free local phones. Some of the north-facing studios have an ocean/mountain view.
